Non-principal roads in England (those categorized as 'B' and 'C' roads) generally had a greater need for maintenance work than principal roads. In the fiscal year ending March 2019, six percent of all non-principal roads needed to be repaired. This is compared to three percent of 'A' roads and motorways.
