In 2022, over 57 percent of the shoulder replacement procedures carried out in England, Wales and Northern Ireland were a reverse polarity total shoulder replacement, making it the most common elbow replacement procedure in this year. Total shoulder replacements were the second-most common procedure at approximately 21 percent, and then a proximal humeral hemiarthroplasty made up 5.3 percent of all procedures.
