According to a survey of companies in the food industry in Malaysia conducted in January 2019, 56 percent of the surveyed companies stated that the existing national nutrition targets were unrealistic for them to achieve. Malaysia has one of the highest rates of obesity in Asia, and the government has taken measures to curb this problem, such as introducing a sugar tax in 2019.
