According to a survey in Malaysia conducted in December 2018, 19 percent of male respondents claimed to reduce processed foods or ready meals, compared to 28 percent of female respondents. Malaysia has one of the highest rates of obesity in Asia, and the government has taken measures to curb this problem such as introducing a sugar tax. According to the same survey, reducing sugar intake was one of the most popular measures taken among both male and female respondents to improve their diet.
