In 2019, the majority of Russians who supported the national government's decision to ban selected food and agricultural products from Western countries explained that it was necessary for the country to support its national industry. The second most popular argument for that decision was that the food embargo was a response to Western sanctions on Russia imposed due to violation of territorial integrity of Ukraine.
