In 2018, 213,306 of AT&T’s full-time employees were working in the company’s home market: The United States. The rest of AT&T's employees is distributed in 59 countries around the world, but most of them are located in Mexico and other Latin American countries.

AT&T is the largest employer in the U.S. telecom industry, as the company's main competitor in the market Verizon currently has less than 150 thousand employees. As the major employer in the telecom industry, AT&T is also the largest employer in its home state of Texas, where the company has its headquarters in Dallas. Close to 45 percent of the company’s U.S. employees were persons of color in 2018.

While AT&T does not provide figures on the makeup of its workforce by profession, the composition most likely reflects the breakdown of the overall U.S. telecom industry workforce. The majority of employees in the telecommunications industry work as equipment and line installers and repairers, or customer service representatives. Additionally, a third of the AT&T workforce worldwide is comprised of female employees in 2018.

AT&T’s revenue by region

The telecom company provides wireless services and broadband subscription television services and generates most of its revenue from its communications segment; WarnerMedia is AT&T's second-largest segment.

The company makes the bulk of its revenue in the United States, as just over 90 percent of the company’s total global revenue was generated in its domestic market in 2018. Outside of the United States, AT&T for example generates revenue through Vrio, which is a leading digital entertainment provider in South America and through wireless services in Mexico.
