In 2017, there were over 62 thousand patients in a day with viral diseases that cause skin and mucosal lesions in Japan, continuing an upward trend since 2008. Skin and mucosal viral diseases were among the most common infectious and parasitic diseases, accounting for almost 33 percent of the total number of patients recorded in the surveyed period.

The estimated number of patients refers to the number of patients who received treatments at medical facilities on the surveyed day. It excludes the number of returning outpatients who were not treated during that period.
