Out of the total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by the energy sector in Russia in 2021, the largest volume was produced by fuel combustion, which amounted to over 1.4 billion tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂) equivalent. Losses and technological emissions from solid fuels' extraction reached about 70 million tons of CO₂ equivalent.

The data were obtained by the source from the national report on the inventory of anthropogenic emissions by sources and removals by sinks of greenhouse gases not controlled by the Montreal Protocol.
