The volume of annual methane (CH₄) emissions in Russia neared 315 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂) in 2021, having increased by 15 million tons of CO₂ from the previous year. That also constituted the highest figure over the observed period.
Volume of methane (CH₄) emissions in Russia from 2005 to 2021
(in million tons of CO₂ equivalent)
The figures exclude the land use, land-use change, and forestry sector.
The data were obtained by the source from the Russian national inventory of anthropogenic emissions by sources and removals by sinks of greenhouse gases not controlled by the Montreal Protocol.
