In the three years prior to 2021, floods were the natural disaster that affected the most number of Indonesian villages. Close to 15.4 thousand villages were affected by floods, while approximately 8.7 thousand villages experienced earthquakes. The Indonesian archipelago sits on the "Ring of fire" and the many islands of Indonesia are frequently exposed to natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and typhoons.
