In 2019, around 550 thousand people participated in the July 1 Rally in Hong Kong, according to the organiser Civil Hunam Rights Front, representing the highest level of all time. After a half-decade in a slump, the participant number began to rise from 2011 and reached another peak of 510 thousand participants three years later. The annual demonstration of Hong Kong takes place on the first of July, the anniversary date when Britain returned Hong Kong to China in 1997. The rally headcount number often reflects the dissatisfaction level of Hong Kong citizens with the government's administrative policies.
