According to a survey conducted in the Philippines, 58 percent of the households in urban areas used bottled water or refilling stations as their source of drinking water in 2017. Next to bottled water or refilling stations, the respondents stated that their source of drinking water was piped into a dwelling, yard, or plot.

Improved sources of water are protected against contamination so that the water is more likely safe to drink.
A total of 31,791 households were selected for the sample, of which 27,855 were occupied. Of the occupied households, 27,496 were successfully interviewed, yielding a response rate of 99 percent. In the interviewed households, 25,690 women age 15-49 were identified for individual interviews; these interviews were completed with 25,074 women, yielding a response rate of 98 percent.
