Around 54 percent of South Korean comic readers aged between 10 and 19 years have purchased merchandising related to a character that had appeared in a digital comic according to a survey conducted in 2021. This age group was the only where over half of respondents stated they did so. Comics, or manhwa, are a popular form of entertainment in South Korea, and the majority of South Koreans read comics in a digital form in 2021.
