In an opinion poll of 2018, 41 percent of Japanese respondents who had previously expressed a willingness to personally help criminals to reintegrate into society answered that they would be willing to participate in volunteer work aimed at the prevention of second offenses. While almost 27 percent expressed a willingness to donate money or commodities to rehabilitation facilities, only about 13 percent of respondents wanted to directly meet the person in question to offer continuous advice and support.
