Greenfield Foreign Direct Investments (FDI), or new foreign direct investment projects (investments from a foreign company with which it establishes operations in a country), saw a large increase in Belgium in 2018. Almost 185 new projects were started that year, making up more than 60 percent of all FDI. The source mentions this percentage was reached in all years, except for 2017. This change in greenfield FDI was likely due to Brexit uncertainty. One should note, however, that the potential event of a "No-deal Brexit" in October 2019 is forecast to cause big job losses in certain areas of Belgium's economy.
