On a survey conducted in August 2019, a vast majority of Brazilian respondents demanded more control measures from the Bolsonaro Administration to prevent illegal deforestation in the Amazon. When asked whether they agreed with the sentence "President Jair Bolsonaro and the Federal Government should increase control measures to prevent illegal deforestation in the Amazon", 90 percent of respondents in Brazil strongly agreed.
In that same survey, up to 83 percent of respondents answered that the Brazilian government should adopt a zero tolerance policy towards illegal deforestation in the Amazon rainforest. In contrast, only six percent of respondents somewhat or strongly disagreed that illegal deforestation in the Amazon is worrisome.
