In 2023, more than 98,600 wildfires were registered in the Amazon rainforest in Brazil, accounting for roughly five out of every ten wildfires registered in the country that year. The Cerrado – a Brazilian biome equivalent to a tropical savanna – suffered a little over one-quarter of all the fires identified in this period, while the Atlantic forest registered around six percent.
