There were 834 blockchain projects in China in 2016. To support the country's research and development, the Chinese government included blockchain technology into the national development plan for 2016 and 2020. In 2017, the government carried out intensive investigations that hugely impacted cryptocurrency trading. This could explain why there was a temporary spike of blockchain projects in 2016, followed by a significant fall a year later.
