In 2017 all three of Europe's three biggest economies, the United Kingdom, France and Germany had a general election, with the combined share of people voting for traditional center-right or left parties following to it's lowest level in over 60 years. In the 1970s and 1980s, around eighty percent of votes went to parties of this nature, but by 2017, only a thin majority of people voted for these parties. In general, the center-right parties have proved to be slightly more resilient than center-left ones, with the French socialist party in particular suffering poor election results in 2017, finishing in fifth place in the Presidential Elections that year.

Share of the vote calculated using the number of votes for major center-left parties in the UK, France and Germany in their most recent legislative elections prior to December 31 of the reference year, as a percentage of all valid votes cast in that election.
Center-left votes refer to votes for the following parties in these elections;
United Kingdom: Labour Party in 1950, 1955, 1959, 1964, 1970, 1974, 1979,1983, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2005, 2010, 2015, 2017
Germany: SPD in 1949, 1953, 1957, 1965, 1969, 1972, 1980, 1983, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2005, 2009, 2013, 2017
France: Parti Socialiste in 1946, 1951, 1958, 1962, 1968, 1973, 1978, 1981, 1988, 1993, 1997, 2002, 2007, 2012, 2017
Center-right votes refer to votes for the following parties in these elections;
United Kingdom: Conservative Party in 1950, 1955, 1959, 1964, 1970, 1974, 1979,1983, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2005, 2010, 2015, 2017
France: MRP in 1946, 1951, MRP+ UNR/UDT in 1958, 1962, UDR in 1968, 1973, RPR+RP in 1978, RPR+UDF in 1981, 1988, 1993, 1997, UMP in 2002, 2007, 2012, Les Republicans in 2017
