In the German Federal Elections of 2017, The Alternative für Deutschland Party (AFD) had the highest share of the vote in the state of Saxony in East Germany, where it won 27 percent of the vote. Although this was the only state that it won, the AFD also had strong levels of support in Thuringia in Central Germany, as well as in two other states in Eastern Germany, Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt. The northern port-city of Hamburg had the lowest share of people voting for AFD at 7.8 percent.
