Primary care physicians in the U.S. dispensed 1.48 naloxone prescriptions per 100 opioid prescriptions in 2018. From 2017 to 2018, there was an increase in the rate of naxolone prescriptions dispensed per opioid prescription across almost all specialties. Naxolone is used to block the effects of opioids and is used to treat opioid overdose.
