The number of men's clubs playing in the main leagues of the Italian Volleyball Federation experienced a decrease from 2017 to 2018. According to the study, over the considered period of time the amount of clubs went from 1,800 to 1,752. This decreasing trend reflected over all the federation's leagues, since they all experienced a slight reduction of men's clubs during the selected years. In this sense, the most significant decrease was recorded in the First, Second, and Third Division, as in 2018 they lost a total of twenty-four clubs.
