Average return on equity (ROE) of cultural goods retailers in Italy 2016-2018

Between 2016 and 2018, Decathlon Italia generated the highest average return on equity (ROE) among the leading retailers of cultural and recreational goods in Italy. According to data provided by Prometeia, the company recorded a ROE’s increase of 26.7 percent over the period considered. Similarly, Decathlon Italia also recorded the highest average return on investment (ROI) between 2016 and 2018.

Leading retailers of cultural and recreation goods: a particularly varied sector

Between 2015 and 2017, the average profitability of Italian leader retailers of cultural and recreation goods revealed a sector that appeared particularly varied. Decathlon - one of the leading sports and leisure retailers in Europe in 2016 - stood out among the sector’s top players. Furthermore, Prenatal Retail Group - focusing on toys, baby products and clothing - and Librerie Feltrinelli, one of the biggest Italian book retailers, also figured among the sector’s leading companies.

Sporting equipment: more profitable than books

In 2018, as stated by the annual turnover from cultural and recreation goods in Italy, sporting equipment was the most profitable good. During this year, the retail sale of sporting equipment generated roughly four times more profit than the retail sale of books in specialized stores.
