Of the selected destinations, the carbon footprint was highest when travelling to and from Istanbul, at 378 kg of CO2. Spain is the most popular travel destination visited by residents in the United Kingdom, and a return flight to the capital Madrid generates a carbon footprint 195 kg of CO2 per passenger.
