As of January 2020, the Indian government offered a cash compensation worth 131 Indian rupees for each liquefied petroleum gas cylinder weighing 14.2 kilograms. In order to protect the common man from the impact of crude oil and gas price rise, the Indian government regulates prices of liquefied petroleum gas cylinders. In 2015, the PAHAL or direct benefit transfer of liquefied petroleum gas scheme was launched across the country enabling a transfer of cash subsidies directly to the bank accounts of citizens with Aadhaar cards.
