The majority of Japanese respondents, around 53 percent, stated that high purchasing prices keep them away from considering a switch from conventional to electric cars, according to a survey conducted by Rakuten Insight in June 2019. In contrast, over four percent of respondents were doubting the positive effects of electric cars on the environment.

*Out of an initial sample of 623 people questioned for their intentions of purchasing an electric car, 523 respondents who were not considering a purchase were surveyed for this question.
