Global power sector emissions totaled approximately 14.2 GtCO₂e in 2023. China contributed to almost 40 percent of this total, making it the global power sector's largest emitter by far. The United States and India followed, with shares of around 10 percent each. By comparison, the entire continent of Africa produced just three percent of global emissions from electricity generation in 2023.
