Data provided by Prometeia show that these small companies counted in total more than 30 thousand members of staff. Thus, roughly 60 percent of all the employees of the sector worked for small businesses over the period considered.

Overall, more than 16 thousand small travel agencies and tour operators were recorded in the selected year. These companies with a production value not exceeding two million euros accounted for 43 percent of all companies in the sector.

When considering the average percentage change in the production value of selected large companies in this sector, data reveal that Alpitour S.p.A. registered a significant growth between 2016 and 2018. Indeed, this Italian company increased on average its production value by 6.5 percent during the period considered.
