In May 2024, three-quarters of Ukrainians believed that their country's relations with Russia should be the same as with other countries, with closed borders, visas, and customs. The public opinion changed significantly over the past decade. In February 2013, the majority of respondents held the view that Ukraine and Russia should be independent yet friendly nations with open borders.

The survey was not conducted in the territories not controlled by the Ukrainian government. The results for 2013 have also been adjusted to exclude the data on Crimea while maintaining the ratio between macro-regions similar to the political situation in 2023.
