Forced Displacement in 2016
Refugee Crisis
By the time 2016 drew to a close, numerous crises had taken the total of displaced people in the world to 65.6 million. According to a UNHCR report released today, this is an increase of 300,000 on 2015.
Of these almost 66 million people, 22.5 million were refugees - the largest share coming, unsurprisingly, from Syria. In terms of hosting these refugees, Turkey had taken the most, with 2.9 million residing in the country.
