In commemoration of the upcoming Mother's Day, the latest edition of the State of the World's Mothers report, published by the Save the Children initiative, reveals where women face the best conditions for motherhood and in which countries women and children have to endure the greatest hardships.
One of the aspects covered in the report is maternal health or, more precisely, the risk of maternal death across different countries and regions. While the risk of maternal death is very low in developed regions such as the United States and Europe, pregnancy and childbirth still hold considerable risk for women in poorer regions, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa.
