Since 2018, Statista Market Insights estimates that the penetration rate of fitness apps has grown from 8 percent to 17 percent in the United States. Leading the charge, as this infographic shows, is Fitbit. With 41 percent market share, Statista analysts have the Google-owned fitness tracker far ahead of any of its competitors. Closest is 'Muscle Booster Workout Planner' with 14 percent, followed closely by the California-based Strava.
One of the pandemic winners, Peloton had nevertheless failed to capture more than 10 percent of the market as of 2022 - likely due in part to the high cost of entry for the largely indoor bike- and treadmill-based fitness model.
