Booking trips and vacations online has become increasingly popular among people in the United States. With the rise of the internet and the convenience of being able to book everything from flights to accommodations and activities, the future isn't looking so bright for the brick and mortar travel agency.
As survey data from Statista Consumer Insights highlights, there are several main advantages in the eyes of customers to booking online. Chiefly, with 53 percent of online travel bookers citing it, is the speed at which you can get your trip organized. Secondly, 47 percent said it's often easier to compare prices, and ultimately, find the best deal.
That being said, there are still some advantages to using a travel agency. Having a contact person who can answer questions and provide assistance was the third most popular response among travel agency customers. Using a travel agency can provide more clarity and ensure that all necessary paperwork and documentation are in order - cited by 30 percent of respondents.
Despite the clear pluses from using an agency, online clearly wins out in 2023, with a large majority saying they prefer to book their trips over the internet - 72 percent to just 12 percent in favor of using a travel agency.
