A fifth of U.S. adults that buy bottled water say they cannot drink tap water at home because it’s not suitable for consumption, whether that’s for reasons such as it being contaminated or chlorinated, according to Statista survey data.
The survey, taken as part of the Consumer Insights Special on Sustainable Consumption, asked respondents why they choose to buy bottled water. The most popular reason for buying bottled water was convenience, however, since it is easier to take on the go and because it tastes better than tap water. But as our chart shows, the next two most common responses were related to concerns over the water quality itself, with 25 percent of respondents stating that they do not trust their supply at home to be drinkable.
