The Netflix series Stranger Things is, according to Wikipedia, an American science fiction horror drama - which as data from Statista's Global Consumer Survey shows, ticks pretty much all the boxes for a large proportion of U.S. digital video consumers. With season four released in part on the streaming service this week, the infographic below takes a look at the share of adults that like to watch the key genres covered by the show.
Overall, 'thriller, mystery, crime' shows and films are the most popular here, with 47 percent of respondents saying they watch this kind of content. There's a clear correlation with age to be seen here though, with the older viewers among us more likely to be watching than the younger generations. The opposite can be said of 'horror', with younger viewers apparently more keen on a dose of fear while watching a movie or series.
This seemingly perfect storm of genres is certainly successful anyway. Season four of Stranger Things broke Netflix's opening weekend viewing record with subscribers watching 286.7 million hours of the show - smashing the previous record of 193 million hours, then held by season two of Bridgerton.
