$15.2 million was spent by Meta Platforms on Mark Zuckerberg's personal security in 2021, plus a pre-tax lump sum of $10 million for additional security costs incurred by the Facebook founder and his family, and $1.6 million for the use of private jets - for a combined total cost of $26.8 million.
A special security program for Zuckerberg's safety at home and while traveling was established in 2013, according to SEC filings by his company. Since then, a combined total of $127.5 million has been accrued. That would likely make the Meta boss the CEO with the world's most expensive and elaborate security program. German publication Spiegel has written an article on how this compares to other top tech managers. It states, with reference to Bloomberg, that Jeff Bezos' security cost Amazon $1.6 million last year. Google CEO Sundar Pichai's security costs were $4.3 million. The $630,630 needed to protect Apple boss Tim Cook is comparatively modest.
