Love it or loathe it: According to YouTube users, K-Pop and Reggaeton are the biggest music genres in the world today. As of September 29, seven out of the 10 most viewed artists on the platform in 2023 are Korean pop acts as well as Reggaeton and Latin trap artists, including BTS, Blackpink, Karol G and Bad Bunny.
Colombian singer Karol G topped the YouTube charts this year, collecting 3.78 billion views so far. Her compatriot Shakira, who is a Latin pop act, was the highest-ranked non-Reggaeton and non-K-Pop entry on the list, but part of her popularity this year came from the collaboration with Latin trap DJ Bizarrap on a breakup song released in January. The only U.S. household names among the top 10 are The Weeknd (rank 6) and Taylor Swift (rank 7).
