This Monday, take a moment to breathe. Every June 21, International Yoga Day highlights the practice of what some see as a fitness activity, but others believe to be a much more spiritual undertaking. Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, many yoga studios have closed their doors, resulting in yoga and meditation fans having to resort to home practice through online courses and yoga apps.
The app Calm has been the most downloaded app in the section, with 9.6 million downloads on the Google Play and Apple app stores from January to June 21 of this year, according to Airnow Data. The app includes exercises and courses to reduce stress and anxiety through music and breathing programs. The ranking continues with the apps Yoga Go (5.2 million downloads), Headspace (5.2 million) and Meditopia (4.6 million). Two more yoga exercise apps cracked more than a million downloads before the half-year mark, as did the app Universal Breathing: Pranayama and essential oils guidebook Essential Emotions.
