U.S. President Donald Trump has become the third president in American history to be impeached. The U.S. House of Representatives passed two articles of impeachment against Trump setting up a Senate trial to determine whether he remains in office. In the run-up to the House vote, YouGov conducted polling about the proceedings, unsurprisingly finding that America is extremely polarized.
The public backs impeachment with 47 percent of those polled saying Trump should be impeached while 39 percent said they are against it. Among registered voters, the gap is narrower with 50 percent saying they are in favor and 43 percent stating that they are against it. Things get extremely divisive among America's political factions with 82 percent of Republicans saying the president should not be impeached while 88 percent of Democrats think the opposite.
