The holidays are all about friends, family... and overspending? When it comes down to it, most Americans are not thrilled about reaching into their wallets for the winter festivities. According to LendingTree’s 2019 Holiday Spending Survey, 75 percent feel pressured to buy presents for the friends and family, with the average U.S. shopper shelling out more than $600 on the holiday.
Anxiety is also plaguing consumers, with 69 percent worried about disappointing their children. More than half of shoppers have lost sleep over buying presents and at least 40 percent of consumers expect to go into debt over the holiday. In fact, 30 percent said they were still paying off debt from last year’s celebration.
