Europe A Difficult Market For Uber
Uber app
According to data provided by Priori Data, the Uber app was downloaded the most in the United Kingdom, Russia and Turkey between January 1st and December 31st, 2018. The ride-sharing application was downloaded 2.5 million times in France, whilst this number reached roughly 850,000 in Germany.
In spite of its popularity in the United States, Uber struggled in recent years to gain a hold of the European market. Local governments criticized the San Francisco-based ride-hailing company for its expansion efforts and its practices on data protection. In the meantime, taxi drivers organized protests against Uber's business model. As of 2019, Uber operates in multiple individual cities in Europe, such as London, Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome and Madrid, but is also banned in Denmark, Hungary and Bulgaria.
