The wolf is rebounding strongly across Germany. While that may come as good news to conservationists, it's likely to frustrate many farmers who consider the animal a threat to their livestock. According to data from the Documentation and Counseling Center of the Federation of the Wolf (DBBW), there are now 60 packs across the country, 13 more than a year ago. Overall, there are an estimated 150-160 adult wolves in Germany.
While farmers have argued that the predators have killed their livestock since their reintroduction to Germany at the turn of the century, they are considered an endangered species and are protected by strict laws. Despite that , they are not considered a threat to humans and no attacks have been recorded. The largest number of wolves have been recorded in the east of the country, particularly in the states of Brandenburg and Saxony.
