How The U.S. Public Feels About Arming Teachers
Armed Teachers
As the debate about gun control grows ever louder in the wake of the Parkland school shooting, much of the discussion is currently focused on the notion of teachers carrying concealed weapons to protect students. President Trump has spoken out in favor of the idea, adding that armed teachers in schools should receive bonuses and that the concept would deter attacks.
The most recent research into the public's thoughts on the issue was conducted last spring by the Pew Research Center. Their polling found that 55 percent of the public are against arming teachers while 45 percent favor the idea. Majorities of parents and non-parents also oppose the concept while a 66 percent majority of gun owners favor it.
