Human Trafficking Convictions on the Rise
Crime
According to data collected by the U.S. Department of State, the number of convictions around the world for human trafficking related offences has seen a rise of 4,905 from 2009 to 2016. Last year, an estimated total of 9,071 convictions were made.
Despite this increase, the number of identified victims actually saw a decrease from the peak in 2015 of 77,823 to 66,520. Of course though, convictions in 2016 are not necessarily connected to crimes committed in the same period.
