Sports Car Sales in the U.S.

Even before the Covid-19 pandemic hit, the American love affair with the sports car was losing its old shine. As Statista Mobility Market Outlook figures show, unit sales of sports cars in the U.S. were running out of gas year after year from 2015 to 2019. In 2020, as with most industries, the numbers took another significant dive, from 198,000 to just 140,000.

2019's level, albeit far from former glories, is forecast to be maintained from 2021 to 2026, but the market shouldn't expect the pace to be picked up at all. Unit sales in 2026 are forecast to be slightly lower than in 2021. Throughout the covered period, the three main players are Chevrolet, Ford and Tesla. The latter of which is projected to threaten Ford's second position in the ranking by the middle of the decade as the move to e-mobility is expected to continue.
