nature and sustainability
Nature Lovers Don't Equal Sustainable Travelers
Tourism affects the environment in many ways - be it through air travel or local leisure activities. That is why it is important to make tourism as sustainable as possible. However, this has so far only reached consumers to a limited extent, as data from the Statista Global Consumer Survey shows. For example, sustainability in travel is important to only about one fifth of the respondents from Germany. This is curious because at the same time 52 percent say they like to be in nature while on holidays. But it is precisely nature that is under great threat from environmental pollution. The idea of sustainability is particularly pronounced in China - the country that contributes the most to global CO2 emissions in absolute terms. this is significantly more than in the USA - which ranks second in terms of CO2 emissions. The gap between nature and sustainability is smallest among the British. Only one third of British study participants value nature-oriented holidays, while 23 percent consider sustainable tourism important.
