Craft Beer: The Incredible Crowdfunded Growth of BrewDog
The craft beer revolution is well under way, and there aren't many companies that are better proof of this than the Scotland-based BrewDog. As our infographic shows, back in 2010 there were just 37 people working for the Aberdeenshire brewers. Fast forward to 2018 and this number is 1,247. Over the same period, revenue rose from £3.3 million to £171.7 million and EBITDA jumped up to £8.4 million after just £0.2 million was recorded in 2010.
A key element to the company's quick success story has been the crowdfunded way it has financed some of its rapid expansion. In 2010, the first round of 'Equity for Punks' - a reference to the brewer's first and signature beer, the Punk IPA - was introduced, allowing anybody to invest and join the "craft beer revolution". At the time of writing over 108,000 people have taken BrewDog up on their offer, raising over £70 million.
