Online retailers priming for Deepavali sales
Deepavali, literally meaning row of lights in Sanskrit, is the Hindu festival celebrated every autumn that represents the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. It is celebrated with lamps adorning temples and homes, with festivities and rituals that usually last about five days.
As this Hindu festival season approaches, e-retailers across India are getting ready to spend an estimated 4,000m Indian rupees on advertising alone, according to Livemint. Compared to 2016, an added five million shoppers are expected to click and proceed to checkouts.
Flipkart’s Big Billion Days sale and Amazon India’s Great Indian Festival sale are set to bring in at least 2.5 billion U.S. dollars. In addition to these giants, companies like Pepperfry, Paytm Mall and Grofers will also invest money in advertising during the Dusshera- Diwali season.
Prosperity, light, fireworks and feasts indeed!
