Green Economy: cannabis Taxes Could Fill Cities' Purses

In its most recent World Drug Report, the UN counted more than 200,000,000 cannabis users globally. While substance abuse always needs to be tackled no matter if it is alcohol, tobacco, marihuana or opioids, drugs also need to be accepted as a social reality within our world.

In recent discussions about cannabis legalization around the world there have been several arguments for and against a possible liberalization. One argument on the ‘pro’ side has always been the revenue that states could make by imposing taxes on cannabis related products and services. In Colorado alone, the generated revenue through taxes equals almost $250 million in 2017.

As our chart shows, this is only the tip of the iceberg. Using the current taxation rate for tobacco products in the respective cities, Seedo, in cooperation with ABCD agency found which cities would profit the most from a legalization of cannabis
